What Type Of Bike Is Right For You

Oct 04, 2011 @ 12:00 am by admin

A bicycle should be a personal extension of your natural movement for the fulfillment of your transportation needs. Judging a bike on price alone is no way to determine what is right for you. Instead, examine what your bike’s main purpose will be and what kind of terrain you will most often expect to face.

Three basic styles of bicycle include road bike, mountain bikes and hybrids. All three categories have subcategories that can vary in configuration or purpose, but choosing from these three will give you some where to start.

Road bikes are designed to give speed and agility on pavement. They typically have skinny tires and a narrow design that requires a forward leaning rider position. Mountain bikes allow a rider to sit upright but the frames are heavier and the wheels are wider to endure rough terrain. A hybrid uses wheels midsized between road and mountain bike widths, allow for upright rider positioning and incorporate gear ratios used for road speed.

Examining your intended bike riding experience will help you pick from the above options. All three can be used for fitness, recreation or commuting. It mostly depends on what type of terrain you plan to ride.Can-t get enough? There-s more: Bike Glossary for Beginners
